Hello! My name is Alyssa Kapnik Samuel, and I’ve been photographing since I can remember.
My mom was also a professional photographer when she was young, and she was always generous with sharing her camera with me. Photographing other humans is such an immediate and beautiful way to connect.
Above all, I treasure candids and natural light. I adore capturing moments between loved ones and dear friends. Being a photographer is an incredibly special job, and I am honored to work with you and your family.
Along with being a family and wedding photographer, I’m also an independent photojournalist and public radio producer and reporter. I’ve reported on, among other things, a refugee preschool in Georgia; mental health in the black community in Oakland, California; the art and science of auctioneering; ice cream sandwiches; the conditions of dog shelters in San Francisco; and the majestic and endangered California Condor.
I am an adventurer, a conservationist, and an exceedingly proud aunt. I’m also an expert on all things West Wing (the TV show, not the government place). I win at Scrabble sometimes, and know the words to, like, lots of musicals. Probably there’s no correlation. I live in Denver with my adorable husband, our incredible little boy, and our ridiculous cat and dog.

I also volunteer photographing portraits of dogs and cats at the amazing LifeLine shelter in Atlanta. If you've been looking for a brilliant new best friend, this is the place.
