Bonding sessions with toddlers and young children are so much fun. Most don't really want to sit still, and they don't often want to do what they're asked to do. It's not necessarily going to be calm, but it's going to be beautiful. The session might be a bit of a workout for you. We'll play games, have fun, and, perhaps only for moments at a time, we'll capture gorgeous, soulful connection. We don't need your babe to sit still the entire time. We want them to be themselves.
Toddlers can be really challenging because they don't really want to stand still, don't want to do what they're asked to do. But toddler sessions are amazing! So much joy and energy and love. We'll play little games, and we'll find ways for them to engage lovingly and playfully with you. This is all about play and fun. No stress, no pressure for your child to conform. We want them to feel loved and happy, and we want them to have fun. That's a huge piece of bonding sessions. Joy and enjoyment. By you and your children.
Little kids are much less of a wildcard in terms of doing what you ask, but, for meaningful photographs, the key is to help them relax and feel at ease so the photos won't look stiff and unnatural. As kids grow, they become more and more aware of what we "want" in photos, and they're often stuck in trying to give us what they think is best. A canned smile. A rigid pose. But the more you play, the more you're present with them, and help them redirect to just being with you, to just snuggling you and loving you, the more relaxed they'll be, and the more the photographs will be an artifact of a fun experience, instead of the reason you were together.
Photographing you with your young children is a way to help you remember not only what this time in your life looks like, but what it feels like in this moment. An authentic photograph can transport you to another time. It can bring back the smell of your child's head, the touch of her feet. It can bring back the joy, the complex connection and the richness of your feelings.
