Location Matters.
Everything about a photo shoot matters to me. Everything means something. How the light works, how the textures work, how your family feels in a space.
I've chosen a few of my favorite locations to showcase here. I prefer locations where there are few other people -- with the notable exception of the Cherry Creek State Park dog off-leash area if you want to bring your pup. I prefer to find secluded, beautiful, quiet spaces where your family can truly be together without many distractions or passersby.
I choose locations based on how that space feels to me. Open and calm is my favorite combination.
I encourage you to choose from these locations the one that feels most obvious for you. The one you connect to the most. Your pictures won't, of course, look just like any of these images. Seasons change, light changes, the color of your clothing, the way your family interacts, are all unique to the moment of your session.
But if the feeling of one or more of these photographs does something for you, then it's likely that the space will help contribute to the kind of images you want.

Mount Falcon East
A very simple and easy trail for little ones. This gorgeous spot has rolling hills, red rocks, and beautiful Colorado shrubbery. It is great for little climbers and explorers. These images were taken in late autumn. $50 travel + permit fee.
Mount Falcon West
This is an incredible spot for photographs -- it has amazing views, and gorgeous rocks and trees and grasses. No real hiking required. Views are very good even from near the parking lot. Great for families, individuals, couples. These photographs were taken in autumn. $50 travel + permit fee.
Richard Crawford Campbell House, Congress Park Neighborhood
This is a beautiful spot in Denver right next to the Botanic Gardens. The house has lovely old Denver design and texture, and the small garden offers a bit of color and detail. Lovely in the winter and early spring months for an individual, couple, or a small family. These photographs were taken in early spring.
Cherry Hills on the Highline Canal
In my book, this spot is a hidden gem. It's got gorgeous cottonwood trees, dirt trails and paths, and all sorts of spots for kids to wander and play in nature. These photos were taken in late autumn.
NCAR, Boulder
This is a wonderful mountain-y area, with lots of different looks in one spot. These images were taken in mid-autumn. $100 travel + permit fee.
Cherry Creek State Park
Cherry Creek State Park has so many gorgeous spaces to explore. This is my favorite. Secluded, and rife with possibility for a child. Any kid will be filled with wonder at getting to play and wander through this area. The park charges $11 per car to enter, you pay for your own vehicle. These images were taken in late autumn.
Cherry Creek State Park, Dog Off-Leash Area
This spot is one of my favorites. If you've got a dog you want to include in photos, being at this beautiful and sprawling off- leash area means that you get to let your dog be a part of the photos, and at the same time, not have to worry about them through the shoot. The park charges $14 per car to enter, you pay for your own vehicle. These images were taken in autumn.
Lookout Mountain
A classic Colorado spot for gorgeous photos. There are multiple different looks at this one location -- a pine forest and gorgeous rocky areas. All very mountainy. And the view of the foothills is just spectacular. It's a super fun (but not that easy to maneuver for those unsteady on their feet) spot to explore. These photos were taken in late autumn. $50 travel + permit fee.
Snow Photos
This is the one exception I make in location being super important. I love photographing while it's snowing and in the snow. It can be super cold, but it's also just a peaceful, bright, evenly-lit paradise of fun. Plus -- little kid snow gear is so adorable. I just love snow photos. This photo was taken around my neighborhood, but could have just as easily been in yours! Snow kind of changes everything to beautiful.
The Studio, Hilltop Neighborhood in Denver
An intimate, cozy indoor space with additional lighting means that we can shoot no matter the time of day or the weather outside. I reserve this space for mamas and babes. This is where I do the bulk of my skin to skin, breastfeeding, and bonding sessions.
